Interesting (well, at least for a techy geek like me…) On the way home today I thought I would let my PDA collect details on all the wireless networks it saw as I drove along, partly as a test of the WiFiFoFum program I installed earlier today. I thought I might see a few access-points, and a few of those unprotected. Well… there were a few, in fact quite a few; 241 to be precise, and the drive is only around 6km, much of it on a road quite a way from residential areas etc. Of these 178 had no password set, so were probably open to anyone looking for free Internet access. Assuming that Icelanders are no more careless than any other Europeans, this should mean that free wireless should only a short walk away in most cities…
After a long wait, we finally managed to get out and do some skiing last Sunday up on Langjökul. In short this turned into a major epic, complete with mad pilots, too much wind and hospital emergency departments. The full details are here.
Other than that Saturday night was spent at a friends birthday party, which was great fun, particularly after I worked out were it was… I cycled off to his house (5 km away), only to realize the party was in a hall about 800m from out house.. Doh!
Well, it had to happen sooner or later… Inga and I have decided to get married. After 7 years or so I guess it was about time, although a friend mentioned they held out for 10 years, so we still have 3 to go to beat them. Much to my surprise I felt very chuffed that Inga said ‘yes’ when I asked her on valentines day, even though it was a fairly forgone conclusion. Not that I have anything against marriage, I just never thought it would happen to me! Anyway before we can go through the fun of the actually ceremony, I need sort out all the guests and when and where they will be here. So far so good, but there is plenty of time for it to all get complicated..
Time for more Homeric wisdom
Well, I finally triumphed over my laziness today and made it to the pool for some exercise (Yay me..!) This was necessary as my dedicated following of SkyOne’s new ‘Eat what you like, when you like’ diet seems to have had the effect you would expect on my weight. Ok there is one weighing machine at the local pool that is my friend, who claims I have lost 2.5kg, but he and I are alone in this dream. All the other machines think otherwise..
Anyway, the swim was the usual torture before the hot tub and then lunch, with the added fun of a hail shower while I was waiting for Joakim to appear, Ok; I admit, I was waiting in a hot tub, so it was not exactly nightmarish, more kind of odd trying to hide from the hailstones as they plopped into the steaming hot water. Putting my head underwater solved the problem, but only for as long as I could hold my breath..
